Next Festival June 7th~10th, 2012
Appledore Visual Arts Festival has received the exciting news that it
has been awarded funding from the Arts Council. Despite severe cuts
across the cultural sector, the Arts Council has given a vote of
confidence to the thirteen-year-old festival.
Festival founder, Sandy Brown, said: “I’m very pleased. This support
from the Arts Council in a time of great competition for funds is a
validation of the high standard of our programming, the top quality
artists we attract, our inclusiveness, and the innovative events we put
on. It means we can put on our 14th Appledore Visual Arts Festival,
which will have an International dimension.”
Cllr Andrew Eastman, Appledore councillor, said: “I am delighted at the
news. In these austere economic times we have this wonderful uplifting
festival to help us celebrate and to lift the spirit.”
Cllr Alison Boyle, Bideford South and Hartland councillor, commented:
“In these times of severe financial tightening, this is a tremendous
achievement.”
Festival director Rae Hoole said: “When we put in the bid for grant
funding, we knew that the recession would affect our chances of success,
so to be awarded the money is a huge boost. I’m excited to be bringing
the festival back to life and I’m looking forward to working with
artists and local people of all ages to make the return of this year’s
festival a worthwhile and memorable event.”
The festival will take place 7th - 10th June 2012 with the theme of
Landmarks. It takes place throughout the whole village of Appledore,
with the stunning estuary location providing inspiration for artists and
visitors. Appledore is fortunate in having a variety of good venues
hosting exciting collaborations, events, artists talks and
installations.
There will be workshops in yurts along the Quay, exhibitions in
galleries, and art on the beaches.
A landmark can be a significant feature, boundary or a turning point in
history. “Tell us know of your favourite Landmarks in North Devon, and
what special meaning they may have to you”.
You can sign up for regular news updates and follow the progress as the
programme develops. You can also get involved as a volunteer, or offer
donations, sponsorship and other support.
