Landmarks 2012 will celebrate the landscapes and landmarks unique to North Devon. A landmark is a conspicuous object which marks a boundary or event, a turning point in history. Sandy Brown founder and Artistic Director says “this theme will enable visual artists from North Devon and across the UK to explore the inspiring creative opportunities that Landmarks conjures up for today’s visual artist”.

Artists and Festival visitors will have the opportunity to explore unique landmarks and unearth hidden boundaries. The work of carefully selected visual artists will become part of the Festival, their work will challenge you, take you by surprise, enrich your day, bring back the child in you and catch your imagination! Through a wide variety of workshops for children, families and adults you will have the chance to mark these moments through your own creative experiences.

As we work towards developing a wide and varied programme with something for everyone to enjoy we are also actively fundraising for the 2012 Festival. The programme of events will include artists talks, events and workshops. 'Landmarks 2012' will be something you might just dip into for a day or you might want to experience the whole, a gathering together of artists over four days that will be completely unique (June 7th – 10th, 2012).

The Festival offers visitors the opportunity to explore this unique and historic village. It is the perfect place to visit and explore as you enjoy the diverse range of events during the Festival including the highly popular Open Gardens, Contemporary Crafts for sale, live Folk Music, Hockings Ice Cream, historical walking tours, the Appledore Silver Band and lots, lots more.

Appledore is a beautiful estuary town with a maze of narrow streets and a fascinating maritime history. It offers expansive views across the wide estuary of the Rivers Taw & Torridge and out towards the Atlantic Ocean. The village has eight Galleries, six pubs, four restaurants and cafes, fantastic sunsets and the second highest tidal drop in the world! All over Appledore there will be things happening so come along, get creative and enjoy the fun of the Festival. See you there!
